The 2023 ORAC Extreme Wahiba Challenge Conquered!

What an exhilarating weekend in the heart of the South East Wahiba Desert! Ten teams faced the ultimate test of skill, determination, and off-road prowess in the 2-day Extreme Wahiba Challenge. 

The unforgiving sand mountains of Oman witnessed the roar of engines and the triumph of teamwork as participants navigated through some of the most challenging terrain in Oman. From towering dunes to vast expanses of golden sand littered with camel grass, this point-to-point challenge pushed both participant, machine and fuel tanks to their limits.

Amidst the adrenaline-fueled action, each team showcased remarkable resilience and strategic skills, proving that conquering the Extreme Wahiba Challenge is no small feat.  The camaraderie, the shared passion for adventure, and the sheer determination to reach the end point united all participants in an unforgettable experience

A huge shout out to the ORAC Scouts for finding the perfect route for this year’s event, and the incredible teams that made the 2023 ORAC Extreme Wahiba Challenge an outstanding success! 🙌 Your unwavering spirit and dedication is truly commendable. 

As the sun set over the vast Wahiba sands, memories of this epic adventure will stay with us for the rest of the season. Here’s to the conquerors of the desert, the champions of endurance, and the enthusiasts who made this event truly exceptional!

Overview

The Extreme Wahiba Challenge (XWC) takes place annually in the Wahiba Sands and is a 2 day event. The route of the event varies each year and is designed by ORAC scouting teams to be more challenging than the Wahiba Challenge due to the more complex route and sand driving conditions.

Entry Requirements

The event is open to all drivers and teams who satisfy the following:

  1. drivers must have completed all ORAC Training (both Theory Training and Practical)
  2. drivers must have completed at least one Wahiba Challenge.
  3. All team participants must be 18+ years
  4. A maximum of 2 people allowed in each car.
  5. A minimum of 4 – and a maximum of 5 cars are allowed in each team.
  6. Each team must include at least 2 spare seats in case of an unrecoverable breakdown of one vehicle
  7. Only short and medium wheelbase cars will be allowed.
  8. Each team must have at least one winch.
  9. All vehicles must privately owned and registered in Oman
  10. No participantswill be allowed if they have been disqualified from taking part in any RAH ORAC events.
  11. Entry will cost 15 OMR per team member. This qualifies you for the event, exclusive Extreme Wahiba Challenge merchandise and a possible welcome dinner. (to be confirmed with final team data entry)
  12. Anyone who has not got a complete team is encouraged to advertise via ORAC Facebook and ‘Friends of ORAC’ WhatsApp. Full teams may be organised at a later date.
